Albania - Tulumba

Albania is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south and southeast. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the west and on the Ionian Sea to the southwest. It is less than 72 km (45 mi) from Italy, across the Strait of Otranto which links the Adriatic Sea to the Ionian Sea.

The cuisine of Albania is Mediterranean, influenced by Turkish,Greek, and Italian cooking. Tulumba  has its roots in Turkey but is a popular dessert in Somalian, Croatian, Greek, Bosnian, Macedonian, Bulgarian, Serbian and Albanian cuisine.  It consists of fried batter soaked in syrup. The sweet is also found in Egypt and is known as Balah Al-Sham.

I decided to make Tulumba to represent Albania, because it's difficult to find food that originated in Albania, and tulumba is a common treat.  The recipe I used is found here.
